Dear friends,
I hope your September is off to a good start. If we haven't met in person yet, I hope that will happen before long! Some of us have met at various northern Colorado networking events. Some of us have been in job-search workshops together, and some of us are email-correspondents and LinkedIn buddies.
During August, I was holding weekly job-search roundtable meetings at a church in South Boulder. We had three meetings and they were outstanding (I had a good time, at least!) but we had to put that program on hiatus because of this month's Daily Camera job-search workshops (http://www.dailycamera.com/careerreboot).
Now, I'm involved in another cool project that I'd love to tell you about, a successor to our church meetings that should have a lot of value for job-seekers and other northern Colorado business types. This time we're not meeting in a church, but in a South Boulder cafe that serves Polish and American food and has a private, upstairs space. That's where I'll be joining with three other local speakers/writers/SMEs to present a series of fun and interactive two-hour, Friday-morning seminars.
It is fantastic to network with other job-seekers, but at each of our three church meetings (and the monthly Taj networking luncheons we host for our job-search coaching group participants), folks have said to me:
"I would love to network with a broader group of people - including corporate people, entrepreneurs, government people, etc. It gets claustrophobic, always networking with other job-seekers!"
They've also said "There are specific things I need to know about Twitter, about contracting or consulting, about using the Web, about LinkedIn, and about other specific business topics. Where can I get that knowledge quickly and without spending a fortune for it?"
These are great questions!
Starting this Friday, I'll be hosting a weekly seminar series at the Eggcredible Cafe on South Boulder Road in Boulder, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Each seminar will cost $25, will showcase a locally-based, nationally-prominent expert (meet our experts!: http://www.asklizryan.com/staysharp.html) talking about one concrete business topic, and will include plenty of time for friendly and productive networking. The series is called Stay Sharp Business Breakfast Seminars.
This week, tech/business guru Dave Taylor will be presenting a seminar titled "Twitter? What the heck is Twitter and why should I, as a businessperson, care?" I hope you can join us for that! The link to register for Dave's talk and any of the other Stay Sharp! seminars this fall, is http://www.asklizryan.com/staysharp.html
Questions? Please write to me at liz@asklizryan.com. I'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions, too.
Cheers -- Liz
